SMARTBIT

Why SMART-BITŪ?

SMART-BITŪDecks have undergone an evolution in recent years, from being part of the backyard to part of a home's primary living space. Along with this change has come the expanded use of preferred decking materials like composites and hardwoods. Stainless steel deck screws, long recognized as the fastener of choice for high-end decks, have also witnessed expanded use.

Stainless steel, however, is softer than hardened steel and often requires pre-drilling with preferred decking materials. In the past, pre-drilling was time consuming and laborious. But with the introduction of the original SMART-BITŪ, pre-drilling and countersinking could be done in one step, with one tool, more quickly and more easily than ever before. That's smart!

And now, SMART-BITŪ is even smarter! The new SMART-BITŪ has POWERBOLICŪ drill bits with special fluting that cuts through decking more than twice as fast as standard wood bits. Plus, the bits are replaceable!

For deck builders working with composites, SMART-BITŪ offers an additional benefit -- it eliminates mushrooming (the formation of small mounds of waste material near the screw hole surface).

Sizes & Compatibility

SMART-BITŪ comes in two standard sizes for decking --  #8 Trim and #10 Flat -- and one larger size with longer bits, great for boardwalks and timber applications --  #14 Flat. The #14 Flat tool comes with two drill bits for a 40mm deep hole and one bit for a 75mm deep hole. (See full Specifications below.)

*Note:

  • Overall hole depth including countersink portion.
  • When installing decking it is general practice not to pre-drill the underlying (joist) material, as this is usually treated timber and does not require pre-drilling. The 1-1/8" overall hole depth of the  #8 Trim and #10 Flat sizes provides sufficient depth for installing deck timber up to 5/4" nominal size
